How this estimate works

Monthly interest = balance × APR ÷ 12 ÷ 100. Add interest, subtract payment, then repeat until the balance is paid.

Assumes a constant APR, monthly interest followed by payment, and no new charges or fees. Actual lenders may use daily interest. Estimates stop at 100 years; this does not calculate a lender’s minimum payment.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

## Bring the right numbers.

Estimates are enough to explore. Keep every money amount in the same
        selected currency.

- 01

The outstanding balance of one debt.

- 02

Its annual percentage rate (APR).

- 03

A fixed monthly payment to compare with your budget.

MAKE THE RESULT USEFUL

## What to look for.

Enter one balance and its APR. Compare a payment your budget supports with a slightly higher payment. If payments do not cover interest, the calculator will explain why this model cannot produce a payoff date.

WORKED EXAMPLE · USD

### Estimated time to pay off: 24 months

Current debt balance $5,000.00 Annual percentage rate 18 % APR Fixed monthly payment $250.00

$989.13 in interest · $5,989.13 total paid.

The example matches the starting inputs. It is an illustration, not a
        recommendation.

TRY ANOTHER SCENARIO

##
Change one thing.
  Notice the difference.

Increase the monthly payment while leaving the balance and APR unchanged. Compare the estimated months and interest, then consider whether that payment fits alongside your other commitments.

A FEW THINGS YOU MAY BE WONDERING

##
Good questions.
  Clear answers.

Why does a payment sometimes produce no payoff estimate?

The payment may not exceed the interest added each month, or the payoff may fall beyond this model’s 100-year limit. The calculator does not invent a payoff date in those cases.

Will this match my lender’s statement exactly?

Not necessarily. This model adds interest monthly before the payment, assumes a fixed APR, and excludes new charges and fees. A lender may calculate interest daily or apply payments differently.
