How this estimate works

Savings rate = monthly amount set aside ÷ monthly take-home income × 100.

Uses take-home income and savings from the same month. Do not include payroll contributions withheld before take-home pay unless you adjust both inputs consistently. This is a chosen cash-flow measure, not a universal savings benchmark.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

## Bring the right numbers.

Estimates are enough to explore. Keep every money amount in the same
        selected currency.

- 01

Take-home income for one month.

- 02

Money set aside from that same take-home amount.

- 03

A consistent definition of which savings you count.

MAKE THE RESULT USEFUL

## What to look for.

Choose what you count as savings and keep that definition consistent when comparing months. The percentage does not tell you whether your savings are enough for a particular goal. Compare it with your budget and goal timeline.

WORKED EXAMPLE · USD

### Share of take-home income set aside: 15%

Monthly take-home income $4,500.00 Monthly amount set aside $675.00

$675.00 set aside from $4,500.00 take-home income. Keep the period and income basis consistent.

The example matches the starting inputs. It is an illustration, not a
        recommendation.

TRY ANOTHER SCENARIO

##
Change one thing.
  Notice the difference.

Keep take-home income fixed and change the monthly amount saved. Then check whether the remaining income covers your other commitments in the budget tool.

A FEW THINGS YOU MAY BE WONDERING

##
Good questions.
  Clear answers.

Can the rate be above 100%?

Yes, if the entered savings exceed the entered income. That may involve existing funds, a different time period, or inconsistent inputs. The calculator displays the arithmetic without treating it as a target.

Should I include retirement contributions from payroll?

This tool starts from take-home income. Including contributions already deducted from that income mixes two bases. For a consistent comparison, use amounts from the same income basis and period.
