Assumes equal end-of-month contributions, no interest, no withdrawals, and a whole number of months. Rounded currency displays may leave a small final adjustment.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Bring the right numbers.
Estimates are enough to explore. Keep every money amount in the same
selected currency.
01
The full cost of one goal.
02
Money already set aside for that goal.
03
A deadline expressed in complete months.
MAKE THE RESULT USEFUL
What to look for.
Start with a goal and a realistic time horizon, then compare the required contribution with your monthly budget. Changing the deadline changes the arithmetic, not what your budget can support.
Your calculator inputs are not included in your inquiry.
TRY ANOTHER SCENARIO
Change one thing.
Notice the difference.
Give the same goal a few more months and compare the required monthly contribution. Then compare that amount with the unallocated money in your budget.
Changing inputs here does not send them to Matt or save them between
visits.
A FEW THINGS YOU MAY BE WONDERING
Good questions.
Clear answers.
What if the goal is already covered?
The remaining monthly contribution is zero. The calculator does not treat any excess savings as a new expense or require you to save them again.
Why does a zero-month deadline give no estimate?
If money is still needed, the model needs at least one month over which to spread contributions. It cannot make a future contribution plan for a deadline of today.
