Simple interest

Explore interest calculated on an unchanged starting amount.

Example values are shown. Change them to explore your situation.

How this estimate works

Interest = principal × annual rate / 100 × months / 12. Total = principal + interest.

Simple interest only: interest does not earn additional interest. Assumes the principal and annual rate stay unchanged, with no deposits, repayments, fees, or taxes. This is not an amortized-loan calculation or a quoted account return.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Bring the right numbers.

Estimates are enough to explore. Keep every money amount in the same selected currency.

  1. 01

A starting principal that stays unchanged.

  2. 02

    A hypothetical annual simple-interest rate.

  3. 03

The length of the scenario in complete months.

MAKE THE RESULT USEFUL

What to look for.

Use this tool only for a simple-interest scenario. Compare the interest amount with the original principal. For interest that compounds or a balance with monthly repayments, choose the matching growth or loan tool instead.

TRY ANOTHER SCENARIO

Change one thing.
Notice the difference.

Compare a 12-month and a 24-month duration at the same principal and rate. In this model, doubling time doubles interest because interest does not compound.

A FEW THINGS YOU MAY BE WONDERING

Good questions.
Clear answers.

How is this different from compound growth?

Simple interest is calculated only on the unchanged starting principal. Compound growth adds interest to the balance so later growth also applies to earlier interest.

Can I use this for a loan I repay monthly?

Not to estimate its repayment schedule. This model never reduces principal. The loan payment calculator models a fixed-rate loan with regular monthly repayments.
